Many parents, for whatever reasons, are more comfortable giving their youngsters medications and remedies that are made from all-natural ingredients as opposed to those churned out by “Big Pharma,” to which the nation’s pharmaceutical is frequently referred.
Perhaps treating their children with nature-based supplements is just a corollary to the organic lifestyles that these families lead. Other parents may worry that their children’s tendency to experience food and medication allergies might be alleviated by using only organic supplements and tonics. But chances are good that they don’t expect these medications to be contaminated.
Recall announced in August
In August of 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of 32 medications marketed for use in children because of concerns of “microbial contamination.”
King Bio, an organic pharmaceutical company with a mission statement that includes the leading goal, “[t]o provide safe, all-natural medicines without harmful side effects,” agreed to a voluntary recall of 32 varieties of their children’s medication. The recall came about after quality control checks revealed that some percentage of the company’s products manufactured from August 2017 to April 2018 tested positive for contaminated microbes.
“[O]ut of an abundance of caution,” the company agreed to pull its products from the marketplace. According to the statement released by the FDA, using products contaminated with microbes could cause “increased infections that may require medical intervention, and . . . infections that could be life threatening to certain individuals.”
